Heritage Photography Case Studies

St Francis Monastery - Gorton - 2006

St Francis monastery Gorton, Manchester was designed by the legendary E.W. Pugin and first opened in 1872.

The shoot was commissioned by the architects practice of Austin Smith Lord, who unfortunately, like many other prominent architectural companies closed during the height of the last recession.

The building finally closed for worship in 1989 and remained practically derelict before re-opening its doors in 2007 following significant and ongoing refurbishment.

IOP’s brief was to capture the sensitive nature of the refurbishment that updated the facilities to contemporary standards, whilst maintaining respect for the original design and purpose.

St John The Baptist - Tideswell

These images are a small selection from a recent and ongoing pro bono community support project, a photographic investigation into the difficult to see gems of the medieval church of St John The Baptist in Tideswell, Derbyshire.

Fort Five days photography and computer processing,
IOP revealed a whole host of previously difficult, if not impossible to see details, including carvings of half beast half human hybrids over 600 years old.
